Nimbus
IV built and flown by Lenny Keer from Greeley, Colorado. 21
foot wingspan and 21 pounds. All fiberglass kit from HKM in
Germany. Outstanding quality. Controls are rudder, elevator,
ailerons, flaps, spoilers, retractable landing gear, and RC
tow release. An Airtronics radio is used. The model was modified
with the installation of a Hacker B50-11XL electric motor powered
with thirty 1700 mah nicad's. A folding prop streamlines to
the nose of the model. A very rapid rate of climb allows the
model to climb to 500-600 feet about three times on a fully
charged battery. It is equipped with a Picolario telemetering
system to provide real time rate of climb, altitude, and voltage
status of the receiver battery. During the event one flight
was in excess of 30 minutes and an altitude of 2117 ft. was
reached. Power was only used to reach an initial starting altitude
of 500 feet or so. A bungee cord is used for takeoff. After
reaching 6-10 feet on takeoff the bungee is released with the
RC tow hook and then the motor started.

Isn't
this the most beautiful model there ever was? One cannot tell
that this is a model aircraft.
