Tail Wheel Units

Heavy Duty

Tail Wheel Unit

Made in USA

For the larger aerobatic aircraft, there is a need for a heavy duty tail wheel unit that can withstand the abuse cause by Harrier Landings and taxing on rough surfaces. Our tail wheel unit can support these rigidity requirements as necessary, yet is still reasonable in weight and attractive as well.

Two sizes, 35% and 40%, are offered.  Large size with a 3/16" dia. wire strut for the 40% size IMAC/TOC aircraft and a 5/32" dia. wire strut for the 33 to 35% IMAC/TOC aircraft.

The main bearing block for the tail wheel assembly is made from 1/4" thick black nylon. The side brackets are form .032" 2024T-3 aluminum. A NELSON RCL69C swivel control horn assembly is employed for the steering arm. This allows the attach cable/springs to move according the the flexing of the unit. The steering arm lengths can be easily adjusted as required.

An adjustable friction plate is used to apply a constant drag to the tail wheel to allow for more precise taxiing and a more positive braking for the aircraft.

Nylon bushings are employed in the tail wheel axle and steering arm assemblies.

The wire landing gear strut is held in place into the wheel assembly with a removable snap ring.

A Dubro 1 3/4" dia tail wheel is included with the 40% tail wheel unit.

The mounting bracket is a CNC machined 6061T-6 aluminum unit that is attached to a suitable plywood/epoxy mounting plate installed in the aircraft's fuselage. It is held in place with  six 4-40 sheet metal screws. The hole in the forward portion of the bracket is used a guide hole for locating the landing gear strut in the proper position.

Weight of the large unit is about 3 1/2 ounces.

Price for the large unit about $30 with wheel.
